BIOGRAPHY

Mary Freiburghaus started her musical studies at the Fribourg Conservatory of Music (Switzerland). After her graduation she studied jazz piano, violin and musicology in Vienna (Austria). She took lessons with the jazz pianists Gustavo Casenave and Viggie Ruggieri in New York. She also took lessons with the great tango pianist Nicolàs Ledesma in Buenos Aires and in Paris.

She studied jazz piano and composition at the Bern University of Art (HKB) with Stewy von Wattenwyl, Philip Henzi and Martin Streule and she graduated her "Bachelor of Arts" in 2010.

In 2011 she composed and arranged for the glockenspiel of the Swiss Centre of London.

Betwenn 2011 and 2012 she studied classical composition at the Conservatorio di musica Santa Cecilia in Rome and she took private classes with the famous jazz pianist and composer Enrico Pieranunzi.

In 2012 she graduated her Master of Arts in jazz composition and theory at the HKB with the professors Martin Streule, Frank Sikora and Kaspar Ewald. She studied a Minor in composition for cinema, theater and media at the Zurich University of Arts. 

In february 2013 she was invited to give theory and improvisation lessons at the Edward Said National Conservatory in Palestine. Then she teached piano and theory at the Al-Quds University College of Music in Jerusalem during one and half year. She was a jury member of the International Al-Quds Composition Award 2013  and of the Magnificat Piano Competition 2014 in Jerusalem. She performed her project TAHRIR-CHIASSO at the UNESCO International Jazz Day 2014 in Jerusalem with the support of the Swiss Embassy.

She played concerts with the violin player Edua Zadory in Palestine, in Switzerland and in Vienna (Austria).

In 2014 Mary Freiburghaus teached then music theory at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and in Mendrisio.

She is member of the collective composition ILC with Sami Lörtscher and Marcel Oetiker. She plays in duo with the violin player Vincent Millioud. and with the tango singer Sandra Rehder. She plays also with the guitar player and composer Benoît Gisler in the project BYZANCE.

Since 2017 she plays with the singer and composer Dida Guigan. "Dida & Mary" performs in Switzerland and France.

In 2019 she graduates her Certificates of Advanced Studies in "Instrumental teaching for children between 4 and 6 years old" at the Bern University of Art.

Since 2019 she studies at the Geneva University of Music / Institut Jaque-Dalcroze to graduate a Certificates of Advanced Studies in Jaques-Dalcroze Pedagogy.

She teaches piano at the Fribourg Conservatory of Music.
